AIM Academy (Grades 9–12)
2023–2024
Developed the curriculum, lesson plans, and engaging activities for the newly established Digital Media Arts Electives — Graphic Design, Photography, and Filmmaking — for students with language-based learning differences. All lessons within these courses were designed to help students develop real-life, out-of-the-classroom skills, including creative thinking skills, problem-solving skills, communication skills, planning skills, technical skills, and conceptual abilities.
Graphic Design:
This two-semester course introduced students to the basics of graphic design — from the Elements & Principles of Design to Typography to Brand Development — through creative, hands-on experience with Adobe Illustrator.
Photography:
Using their smartphone cameras and Adobe Photoshop, students explored the basics of digital photography while focusing heavily on composition and color theory. Art Criticism and whole-class discussions/critiques were incorporated into each project to help students develop their observation skills, communication skills, and self confidence.
Filmmaking:
Students were introduced to the basics of filmmaking — pre-production, production, and post-production — through script writing, storyboarding, filming, and editing with iMovie. Beginner-based lessons and projects included documentary films, product commercials, movie trailers, and stop-motion animation.
All Three Courses:
• Lesson planning and implementation
• Differentiated instruction
• Student performance assessment
• Classroom management
• Parent-teacher communication
• Real-life skills development
